All Weather Cologne / Alle Wetter Köln

The Project

Time: Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve I decided to start some photo sessions in the middle of cologne.

Conditions: The weather at this time was rainy and windy with rare dry moments and often with low light. As I wanted to photograph my scenes without any persons on the image, I have to start in the early morning. The pictures will show a dark environment with mirroring effects caused by the wetness from the rain.

Some Final Remarks

The main idea of my work was to show the city of cologne in a special way: with no persons, with bad weather, often in a dark, rainy situation. My personal mind is that this will create a specific mood of the image.

How I did this. To create good light reflexions in the darkness I have to choose an aperture about 16. That makes a tripod necessary. But I decided to do the photos by free hand and to use an ISO value of 25,000. Later I have reduced the image noise in the post production (it worked).
